LUMBERTON- Direct Support Professional Recognition week was established by the United States Congress in 2008, setting the second week of Sept. aside to raise awareness for the constant contributions DSP workers provide for those with intellectual disabilities. DSP workers play an important role in the lives of those with disabilities, giving them an opportunity to learn and grow as individuals, as well as helping them become a part of their communities and making an impact there. The theme for DSP week in 2024 is “ROCK YOUR ROLE!”

Primary Health Choice, Inc., a statewide provider of I/DD and behavioral health services, is celebrating DSP week from Sept. 8 to Sept. 14. We want our direct support workers to know they are valued and appreciated, and their hard work doesn’t go unnoticed. Day support clients have taken part in a service project to create company gifts for all of our direct support professionals. During DSP week, clients will give the gifts to to our direct support staff as a token of appreciation for they work they do. The company Facebook page will highlight the service project, as well as show appreciation for our direct care workers. If you want to join in on the recognition, feel free to show your support on our Facebook posts during DSP week.
