NC Innovations
The NC Innovations Waiver is a Medicaid program designed for individuals who would otherwise live in an intermediate care facility for people with intellectual disabilities (ICF/IDD). This program allows individuals to reside in a community rather than an institution or group home. To qualify for the NC Innovations in North Carolina, participants must meet the following criteria:
- The participants must be at risk of institutionalization
- The Medicaid cost for community care must be cost effective in comparison to the cost of ICF/IDD care
The waiver operates under a Medicaid Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) waiver granted by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). CMS approval is necessary for the services provided, the number of participants, and various aspects of the program. Furthermore, NC Medicaid oversees all waiver-related issues to ensure compliance and quality of care.
